Dr. Shafi Mohammad Tareq completed B.Sc. (Hons) and M.Sc. in Chemistry from Jahangirnagar University and obtained M.S. in Environmental Science and D.Sc. from Nagoya University, Japan. He also completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education from the University of Nottingham and became a fellow of higher education academy, U.K. In his early career, he worked as a Japanese Society for Promotion of Science postdoctoral fellow at Nagoya University and a commonwealth academic fellow at the University of Birmingham, U.K. Dr. Tareq worked as a founding faculty member and chair of the Department of Environmental Sciences, Jahangirnagar University. He also worked as an associate professor at the School of Bioscience, the University of Nottingham. He is skilled in environmental monitoring and assessment with a special focus on hydrobiogeochemistry, pollution-related health risk and fate and transport of dissolved organic matter and emerging chemicals in the aquatic ecosystem. Dr. Tareq published around 100 papers in refereed journals with total citations of 2020 and received the very prestigious Bangladesh Academy of Science and the World Academy of Science (BAS-TWAS) young scientist gold medal, 2013. Dr. Tareq enlisted as a Fellow (FRSC) and Charted Environmentalist (CEnv) in the Royal Chemical Society, U.K. He presented his research at many international conferences in Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America. His contribution to lignin molecular biogeochemistry was published in a book titled “Lignin Molecular Biogeochemistry: Principles and Practices” from the USA. Currently, he is working as a professor of the Department of Environmental Sciences, Jahangirnagar University.
I am Dr. Mashura Shammi, serving as an Associate Professor at the Department of Environmental Sciences, Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh. I had completed B.Sc. (honours) and M.Sc. in Environmental Sciences from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh. I had completed Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) by the funding of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and The World Academy of Sciences (CAS-TWAS) President’s Fellowship Program in 2017. I was a fellow of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) and completed an international training program on Strategic Environmental Assessment ITP-SEA, 2017B Asia. I am the coordinator of the ITP-SEA Alumni Network (SEAN) Bangladesh. In addition, I am a fellow of the Organization of Women in Science for the Developing Worlds (OWSD) Early career women scientist (ECWS) 2019-2020 on “Anthropogenic Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission and carbon dynamics in the Ganges River, Bangladesh”. I was also a fellow of Eco-Peace Leadership Center (EPLC)-Asia in 2018-2019. I have a keen interest in environmental interdisciplinary research such as biogeochemistry of salinity intrusion, climate change, and environmental assessment.
